Hey Noah,

I'm just curious where you got that quote of $3000 and how you know you need a whole new motor? You might just be able to work with what you got for A LOT less....

If you haven't already, I would give VW Jim in Lodi a call...209-366-1102

I can help you get a ride back here, or whatever you need. Hope you can come by the meeting tomorrow night to chat with us - we'll be out from 7-9pm.

Just a bit of advice - You have to be careful buying a motor (either new or used) because you don't want to waste your $$ for something that's not a good solid runner.

Let me know,
Bianca

The guy at joes smog shop or something like that.. I have a blown gasget and some other junk..he said it will be cheaper to get an engine than to fix it and when I saw the estimate I could get a whole new bug for that price.. but my bug still runs. Just backfires and dies.. I will def try to make it tomorrow I get done with work at 8 .is vw jim a shop?

We missed seeing you out tonight, but please give VW Jim a call. Yes, he has a VW shop, it's located in Lodi. I know it's a bit far but he KNOWS what he's doing and his rates are very reasonable. I think your best bet is to start there, I'll bet you don't need $3k to fix it! It would be WAY less....

Good luck with it,
Bianca

your bug does not have head gaskets, if its blowing out from inbetween the head and cylinder you may just need to re tork the heads,

bugformance of stockton 1111 east oak street in stockton
www.bugformancestockton.com 209-467-7777
some people just dont understand the siplicity of bug motors, the reason there are not head gaskets on a bug moter are that the heads on a bug are tapered

off the top of my head I think we charge a half hour labor 42.50 to diagnose but you will have to call and find out for sure,
also have you adjusted your valves?
